Lake Country Pastel Society Summer Celebration Show at the White Bear Center for the Arts

When selecting award winners, our judge, Kami Mendlik used the following criteria — but finally, in the end it was where her heart pulled her.
- Paintings that have carrying power from across the room
- Simplification of shapes
- A strong armature
- Decisions on what does not have to be in the painting
- Handling and sophistication of the medium

When selecting award winners, our judge Doug Dawson in general explained and used the following criteria:
- use of complimentary colors adjacent to each other;
- use of edges that added some mystique, some precise, other more loosely delineated;
- use of precise drawing;
- overall color balance that combined color intensity with reticent areas, also combining light and shadow; and
- painting that ‘popped’ or stood out!
